“We have all these tools, devices, curriculum– why would I ever suspend a student again?”
That’s the question posed by Dallas Independent School District Superintendent and TUC Co-Legislative Chair Dr. Michael Hinojosa in a new video produced by the Commit Partnership. In it, Supt. Hinojosa is joined by Texas Appleseed’s Andrew Hairston, former Dallas school board trustee Miguel Solis, and Dallas parent Lakashia Wallace to discuss how Dallas ISD banned suspensions across all grades– and why.
“We have fought so hard for so many years,” says Wallace, “And now someone [is] finally paying attention and understanding what we were saying.”
